A beneficiary is a person or entity that is entitled to receive a benefit or asset from when you die.

In an Islamic Will beneficiaries are of two types. The first is those class of persons who are given rights to an estate by virtue of the Islamic rules of inheritance. If a person wishes to write an Islamically compliant Will, these mandated beneficiaries cannot be changed. The second are those who are not mandated by the Islamic rules of inheritance, to whom one is allowed to leave up to a maximum of 1/3rd of their estate. Essentially these are people like your neighbours, friends, non-Muslim relatives and charitable organisations.
